On his tenth birthday, Marcel, a deeply imaginative boy, forms a strong bond with his superhero piñata, which he sees as his only friend, his faithful protector, and an extension of his inner world-bright and innocent. As the celebrations approach, childhood excitement slowly turns into pressure. Friends and family eagerly await the ritual of breaking the piñata, but Marcel resists when he sees his cardboard friend hanging by a rope around its neck, ready to be torn apart. Amid songs and applause, the tension rises, the atmosphere grows heavier, and Marcel finds no ally, not even in his father. Refusing to break it would leave him exposed. Yet breaking it does not only mean destroying his friend, but shattering the innocence that once protected him and taking his first step into an adult world that welcomes him with violence.
